‘Mercury Seven’ Rollerball Pen

In 1959, NASA announced the first seven American astronauts to fly operations for "Project Mercury." Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Alan Shepard, and Deke Slayton made up the "original seven." Selected from a pool of military test pilots known for their exceptional skill, courage, and physical endurance, each new astronaut would venture into the unknown, captivating the imagination of the country and world as they pushed the boundaries of human exploration beyond Earth’s atmosphere.

Retro 51, in partnership with the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, has released a brand new "Mercury Seven" commemorative rollerball pen. In celebration of ASF’s 40th anniversary, this limited-edition Tornado™ captures the futuristic silver space suits worn during the missions. Details from the suit are replicated on the pen barrel with acid-etching and printing, complete with white accents similar to the astronauts helmets and boots. Each pen is engraved with a limited edition number of the 1,958 rollerballs produced and topped with ASF’s logo on the finial. The illustration of the "Mercury Seven" on the packaging tube is reminiscent of the iconic group photo of the astronauts in their suits and is printed against a metallic silver background.
